The 2024 Bayelsa Governor's Cup, also known as the Prosperity Cup, concluded on Saturday, July 20th, at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
A massive crowd cheered on both teams as Ogboinbiri FC triumphed over Nembe FC with a decisive 3-0 victory to claim the 6th edition of the Prosperity Cup.
The match began with both sides sizing each other up, but it quickly came to life when Bekewei Ebi's neat footwork and cross from the by-line found his brother Paul Bekewei in the 22nd minute, who headed home to give Ogboinbiri the lead. Nembe FC pushed hard for an equalizer before halftime, but a mix-up in their defense allowed Bekewei Iladei Ebi to slot the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper, giving Ogboinbiri a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Nembe FC started with more determination, seeking a goal to stage a comeback, while Ogboinbiri FC aimed to protect their lead. Ogboinbiri FC extended their lead in the 55th minute after Nembe FC's defenders failed to clear their lines, allowing Paul Bekewei to score his second goal of the day and secure a 3-0 lead. With this comfortable lead, Ogboinbiri FC saw out the remaining minutes of the game, clinching the title for the first time.
Earlier in the day, in the female category final, NDU Queens FC defeated Peremo Soccer Academy 1-0, thanks to an early strike by Osiga Gloria in the 2nd minute, handing the university girls their first-ever Prosperity Cup title.
